Egypt : Cairo Museum...

Early in the morning of the third day, we made our way to Cairo Museum. The kids were so looking forward to going in a museum...hehehe, especially Hadi. But, the problem was getting a parking for the car, Afzan had to walk quite far after dropping us off.

I was quite astonished at the level of security at the Museum. They had guards at the entrance to the area, screened at the gate and another elaborate screening at the entrance. We were forbidden from bringing a camera inside (but people could still take pictures from camera phones, right?). The entrance fee was LE 65 for adults.

The museum experience was quite good. There were a lot of artifacts and historical facts that could be learnt. I thought Afzan could tell us the history but we learnt more from reading from the plaques. The kids wanted to learn about mummies, of course and there were so many sarcophagus to look at in many shapes and forms. Hadi loved the bugs mummies as the Pharaohs were also buried with their companions, servants and even pets and other worldly possessions.

At times, I could feel the shivers because it was quite scary, really. Inside the museum, they have a special room for the Royal mummies. You have to pay another LE100 to enter and my husband was very interested to look at Ramses II. While he went in, I had to entertain the kids...sigh.

We also managed to look at the golden sarcophagus of Tutankhamun, the boy king. I have to admit that visiting the museum was a worthwhile endeavour, for the whole family in fact. I also noted that there were so many visitors to the museum, sometimes it was quite difficult to move even. The place was also crawling with guards, in uniform as well as those in plain clothes, I bet.

On our way in...

Kak Long...

Hadi was so looking forward to the visit...

We were there for about two hours, we didn't even have time to explore all the rooms. But the kids started to feel hungry... and when they're hungry, museum's definitely not a good place to be...hehehe.

On our way out...

Everyone's tired...
