Aliah's first day puasa...

Last year, Aliah managed to fast one whole month. This year I'm hoping that she could do the same. So far, so good, she hasn't 'ponteng' yet. I even tested her whether she wanted to taste the biscuit yesterday and she just shook her head...hehehe

But in the beginning, it was pure torture for me...hehehe. The first day was on Sunday, a schooling day. When she got back, she told me that her teachers asked her to stop fasting. In Sudan, fasting started when they're teenagers, around 14 and above. It's very different in our culture when fasting started as early as 5 or 6 years old. They felt that fasting at the age of 8 is inhuman.

In fact, we had to reassure the schools that our kids could and would fast during Ramadhan. It lasted for 3 or four days, then they got used to it. In the first week, she used to find reasons to break her fast, all to no avail...hehehe. When she was about 6, she liked to open the fridge during Ramadhan, not to eat, just to look at the food inside...hehehe

Actually, waiting for the time to break her fast's still the hardest for her. Her first day was the worst. The pictures below were taken just before azan maghrib on the first day...hehehe

She volunteered to set the table...

Wondering when she could finally drink...hehehe

She couldn't wait to taste the cucur udang...

Her favourite, pau...

That's kaya pau...
