Shopping in Omdurman...

On monday the 16th, I followed the other ladies to Omdurman. Actually Kak Shidah wanted to bring her sister and her BIL to Omdurman. Kak Jas wanted to find some candlesticks for souvenirs while Kak Anum, Ina and me just went for fun...hehehe. Oh yes, Kak Shidah's husband also followed us there.

On the way there we sort of acted as the tour guide but unfortunately we only knew only some of the places (those spesific for shopping...hehehe), other than that we would be hopeless...hehehe

The swollen Nile river...

Omdurman's quite big and there's so many little areas spesific for certain items, such as gold street, leather etc. We went to the craft area because Kak Jas wanted to buy the wooden candlesticks. Shila also wanted to buy a purse made by camel skin. In the first shop that we went to, he refused to give us at the price that we asked for.

You have to remember that in souks, prices would change from one day to another. Their stocks are also limited. The rule of the thumb is if you like what you see, you'd better buy it because it'll probably be the last item in stock. In the next shop, I was kinda quite interested in the candlesticks, so I bought a pair. Shila and her husband bought a slingbag each and other various small items. The best thing was the others also got free 'stuff' like bangles and a cute necklace...hehehe

The shop was small and Amir was very curious with all the animals handicraft inside...sigh. I opted to get out and went to the next shop. There, I bought another 4 pairs of candlesticks for souvenirs. The shopkeeper could even speak malay...hehehe. After that we split up, Kak Anum and Ina went to the pots and pans area while the rest went to the carpet shop.

K.Jas, K.Shidah, Ina, K.Anum and me...

They were busy haggling...

A walking stick...

Look at Amir's objects of interest. He made them fall, ok?!!

I didn't plan to buy any carpet but... I did buy one...hehehe. Enough said. We got back just before the kids came back from school.
