Egypt : Masjid Amr Al-As...

On the 25th of December, Kak Faridah, Junaidi and their family arrived from Khartoum. Starting from then on, we'll be travelling together as a group. I met them having breakfast at the cafe. My kids were excited to meet their friends. Kak Faridah has 6 kids, 5 girls and 1 boy.

After breakfast, we head out to old Cairo. We went to Masjid Amr Al-As, the first ever masjid built in the African Continent. The name was taken from Amr Al-As, one of the companions of Rasulullah s.a.w. He was the general who defeated the Byzantine empire in Egypt when Alexandria was still the capital city.

It was built in AD 642 as the original site of Amr Al-Asr commanding tents. It was rebuilt many times since it was first built, but has remained as a place for prayers until now. In between prayer times, it would be opened for visitors like us.

The kids (now grown to 6 little people) ran around the spacious Masjid...sigh. They climbed the stairs towards the muezzin's place to call for prayers among other things...hehehe. Enjoy the pictures :)

Salam klcitizen,

cantik tu satu hal, yang bestnya masih digunakan sampai kehari ini. Kat Mesia pun banyak masjid cantik2, tapi macam tak fully used aje... Entahlah, rasa lain macam aje bila masuk masjid2 kat Cairo ni, rasa tenang aje...berkat ibadah berjuta umat terdahulu kot?!! Best sangat!
